Both books also give a longterm perspective that one might otherwise not have regarding governments, and the reasons civilizations collapse, and how we all got to where we are today. There are clues laid from the very first page, but these are the type of clues that you don't realize are important until the climax of the story. Of course, this is not the book for the casual reader. It was predictable, drawn out and just plain old fluff. This is a classical whodunnit, but with some nice twists. As others have said in the commentaries, this is a good introduction to interacting with spirits but it is inadvisable to rely on this book as a sole source of information on the subject.

Chinese sovereignty is not as unyielding and monolithic as is commonly asserted.
